Win a Trip to the Shetland Islands — The Fair Isle Craft Club Quarterly Prize
Every quarter, one Fair Isle Craft Club member wins a fully funded trip to the Shetland Islands. Here is how it works.
What is the prize?
Once every quarter, the Fair Isle Craft Club community votes for the best pattern submission from that season. The winning member receives a fully funded trip to the Shetland Islands in Scotland.
The prize covers return flights and three nights accommodation. You see the landscapes that inspired the patterns. You visit the island with 55 people where Fair Isle knitting was born. You bring home something real.
How do you enter?
Every Fair Isle Craft Club member automatically receives one competition entry per month just for being subscribed. To increase your chances, submit your own original pattern. Each submission earns three additional entries for that quarter.
You can submit as many patterns as you like. The more you create, the more entries you earn. The format requirement keeps quality consistent and means the best submissions automatically become part of next month's bundle for all members.
Why the Shetland Islands specifically?
Because authenticity matters. Fair Isle is not a style or a brand name. It is a specific place — a real island, a real community, a real 300-year tradition.
Visiting the island where the patterns were born, where the sheep that produce Shetland wool graze, where the last generation who learned by watching their grandmothers still live — that is a different experience from any craft holiday.
What about the other clubs?
Every OldCraftNew platform has its own homeland prize. Sashiko Society members can win a trip to Kyoto. Kente Craft Club members can win a trip to Accra. The principle is the same across all traditions: learn it, master it, go there.
Each club runs its own quarterly competition independently. Subscribing to multiple clubs multiplies your chances of winning a trip somewhere.
The maths of winning
1 subscriber = 3 entries per quarter. Submit one pattern = +3 additional entries. Submit each month = 12 extra entries per quarter. Most subscribers submit 1 to 3 patterns per quarter. Your odds of winning a trip to Shetland are genuinely meaningful.
